Like most guys my age, I was once a young boy.

But now that I am no longer a boy, I marvel at the things young boys (and girls) enjoy. Their favorite films, celebrities and songs baffle my advanced sensibilities. But, it is not my place to judge since I once just as they are - naive, and tasteless.

My tastelessness extended itself to a very common phenomenon - the teenage crush, but unlike most people, my teenage crush lasted a bit longer than it should have and was on someone who was barely famous... Eddie Furlong.

Eddie Furlong came to and soon left the world's attention by starring in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. At the time, I affectionately referred to him as 'Little Eddie', or 'My Lil' Eddie'.

All of my friends knew of my ridiculous obsession with this half-star because of the many photos I kept tacked on the wall of the small bedroom (and bed) that I shared with Samantha, my baby dyke roommate, and her mother. We were poor and quite close.

My Little Eddie photos vied for position with Samantha's Jodie Foster pics. I'd lapse into a pre-teen girl state of euphoria by staring at the little one and repeatedly reading his masterful interviews. We'd watch Terminator 2 on an almost nightly basis and obsessively rewind our favorite bits of dialogue; I believe we were the first and only people to extend a camp sensibility to a pre-teen boy and how his hair moved.

But such guilty worries were assuaged when Little Eddie began dating his 30yo tutor and stand-in from Terminator 2, Jackie Domac, causing a legal battle with his mother and quite a stir in Hollywood.

A week later I had it in my hands. Little Eddie Furlong and his unknown album entitled - 'Hold on Tight'. I knew what I wanted to hold onto tight.

The booklet is full of photos where Lil' Eddie looks either bored or drugged, as in the cover photo. Wake up Lil' Eddie, camera's ready, prepare to flash!

No one was sure that a suit jacket could be tucked into pants... until Eddie.

Years later he himself had this to say about the recording: "It was the worst thing you've ever heard in your entire life. It was just the exact opposite of rock... believe me, no one wants to hear it... if you had me singing on-stage, everyone would leave.  I have a really bad voice and... it was a really bad mistake.."

Words cannot describe the lightheaded joy this song brought me then.. and does still.

Sadly, Lil' Eddie and his girlfriend Jackie (12 years his senior) broke up in mid-1999, and she is sued him for 15% of his movie profits. She also claims that he beat her. Perhaps that's why Little Eddie looks so distraught in this pic, taken just before the breakup.

I hope you did beat her, Lil' Eddie.

People used to say that I looked like Edward Furlong. It was probably the hair, but luckily for me, I have blossomed into the strikingly handsome young man I am today, whereas Lil' Eddie, while decent looking, lacks the charm and style that I exude so effortlessly.

Little Eddie, it is because of your ridiculous pre-teen voice and fabulous early 90's boy haircut that we salute you. Despite your innate dorkyness, you are now a member of the House of Diabolique!

Don't be such a sourpuss Lil' Eddie..
for henceforth you shall be known as
Little Eddie Diabolique!

One week I heard from  a guy named Jeremy Gloff, who indicated that he, too, was once obsessed with this half-star.

In fact, in 1995 Jeremy wrote & recorded a tribute song to Little Eddie!

Now I take the unprecedented step of adding his Little Eddie tribute song to my Little Eddie tribute page, thereby making the House of Diabolique the premiere showcase for gay men who formerly had crushes on teen dream   Edward Furlong.
