Like most guys my
age, I was once a young boy.
This is the photo that fooled me into thinking he might be gay. He was 15 at the time, and I was just old enough to be arrested for having sex with him. But such guilty worries were assuaged when Little Eddie
began dating his 30yo tutor and stand-in from Terminator 2, Jackie
Domac, causing a legal battle with his mother and quite a stir in Hollywood.
Back then I worked for a film producer, and one morning she told me she had to go to Japan for a film festival. Then she asked if she could bring anything back for me.. My eyes lit up and I immediately spat out 'LITTLE EDDIE'S ALBUM!!!!!' because yes, that's right, Little Eddie had released an album - of music - for his loyal Japanese teen girl audience! My boss laughed nervously but complied. A week later I had it
in my hands. Little Eddie Furlong
and his unknown album entitled - 'Hold on Tight'. I knew what I wanted to
hold onto tight.
The booklet is full of photos where Lil' Eddie looks either bored or drugged, as in the cover photo. Wake up Lil' Eddie, camera's ready, prepare to flash!
Here's some more luscious photos from the foldout in the booklet..
I will now treat
you to a small clip from Lil' Eddie's only cover song, of the Doors'
'People Are Strange'. Years later he himself had this to say about the recording: "It was the worst thing you've ever heard in your entire life. It was just the exact opposite of rock... believe me, no one wants to hear it... if you had me singing on-stage, everyone would leave. I have a really bad voice and... it was a really bad mistake.."
Maybe at the time
it was the worst thing you've ever heard in your life, Eddie, but that's
because Mariah Carey's Glitter hadn't been released yet.
I of course feel he's being a little hard on himself as his album brought me waves of untold joy! I now present to you the album's masterpiece - track 4, entitled 'When the Sun Goes Down' . At the time of its release, I would snuggle under my blankets and gaze longingly at Eddie's photos while imagining what it would be like to untuck that suit jacket.. all while listening this song on headphones. *sigh* Lil' Eddie looks as excited to sing this song as you are to hear it!
'When The Sun Goes Down' Dreaming of kissing you and holding you tight Nothing else matters when you're near me Touching your face as I look deep in your eyes Baby I love you - can you hear me Here you are beside me and the world is yours and mine I want to give my love to you until the end of time Until the end of time When the sun goes down - I'll be here with you Our hearts will beat together When the sun goes down - all I want to do Is be with you forever And be the one you love when the sun goes down If you've made it this far, congratulations.. but there's more! Deep in the darkest hour I'll take your hand When you're afraid my love will guide you We'll cross the deepest ocean till we reach the other shore And when you think you're out of love I'll give you more and more - give you more and more There's never been another love who makes me feel this way I'm praying that this feeling never ends We'll hold on till the morning when the darkness goes away Strong inside us love will guide us To a brighter day - love you every day Words cannot describe the lightheaded joy this song brought me then.. and does still. Sadly, Lil' Eddie and his girlfriend Jackie (12 years his senior) broke up in mid-1999, and she is sued him for 15% of his movie profits. She also claims that he beat her. Perhaps that's why Little Eddie looks so distraught in this pic, taken just before the breakup.
I hope you did beat her,
Lil' Eddie.
People used to say that I looked like Edward
Furlong. It was probably the
hair, but luckily for me, I have blossomed into the strikingly handsome
young man I am today, whereas Lil' Eddie, while decent looking, lacks
the charm and style that I exude so effortlessly.
Don't be such a sourpuss Lil' Eddie.. for henceforth you shall be known as Little Eddie Diabolique! Postscript 1: Postscript 2: Margot Kidder |
