Fannypack isn't similar to LTrimm and JJ Fad. Fannypack rhymes more like the Southern tradition of 24K. But the other 2 groups sound like Run DMC. Everybody just mentions LTrimm in the Fannypack reviews, because they wanna sound old school knowlegeable.
Here's some real old school science.
Liberated Iraq has its first temporary president, and his name is Ibrahim Jafari. Jafari hails from the Shiite fundamentalist party Al Dawa.
Dawa?
Would that be the same Dawa that carried out a series of Reagan-era bombings in Kuwait of, among other things, the American and French embassies and the residential housing of American Raytheon employees -- bombings that killed five people and injured 80?
The same Dawa that took inspiration from the Iranian Islamic Revolution and the Ayatollah Khomenei? The same Dawa that founded and set up Hezbollah in Lebanon?
The same Dawa that buried it's longstanding animosity with Saddam, siding with him against the US invasion of Iraq?
Why yes, it would.
Only now, after three decades of guerrilla and terrorist violence, they've surfaced to demand a share of ruling post-Saddam Iraq, and claiming they now believe in democracy and rule of law. And we trust them on this because ... well ... who can keep track of all these guys anyway?
Hezbollah emerged from Dawa's Lebanese branch. And when 17 terrorists were jailed over the suicide bombings against the US and French embassies, rage at the imprisonment of the "Dawa 17" became a main declared motive for the Mid-East kidnappings of Americans.
Today, Dawa officials say the Dawa 17 who bombed our embassy were freelancing, and had been co-opted by Iranian intelligence. The new Dawa, which still operates as secretive "cells" and can't or won't lay out a platform, or even fully identify its leaders, is supposedly a more moderate crowd than the old school. So, is that like dealing with the moderate wing of Al Qaeda?
Much of the above was bit from The Nation, where David Corn notes that this how we created Saddam back in the day. By picking one bastard to be our puppet. Until he went a little too solo. Here we go again!

The Army Times, August 6, 2003:
[During the war, Pentagon officials denied napalm was being used, saying the Pentagons stockpile had been destroyed two years ago. Napalm, a thick, burning combination of polystyrene, gasoline and benzene, was used against people and villages in Vietnam. Its use drew widespread criticism.
The newspaper said the spokesmen were apparently drawing a distinction between the terms firebomb and napalm.
Late Tuesday, Lt. Ryan Fitzgerald, a spokesman for the U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Fla., told The Associated Press napalm was not used. He declined to say whether firebombs were used.
We did not use napalm in Iraq, he said. Napalm is not a weapon that we keep in our operational arsenal anymore.
The real issue that I think youre trying to get to is, Are we using appropriate weapons?, Fitzgerald continued. And yes. The answer is yes.
According to the Union-Tribune report, the Marines dropped Mark 77 firebombs, which use kerosene-based jet fuel and a smaller concentration of benzene. Marine spokesman Col. Michael Daily acknowledged the incendiary devices were remarkably similar to napalm weapons, but have less impact on the environment.
You can call it something other than napalm, but its napalm, said John Pike, defense analyst with GlobalSecurity.org, a nonpartisan research group in Alexandria, Va.
Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Jim Amos confirmed aircraft dropped what he and other Marines continue to call napalm on Iraqi troops on several occasions. He commanded Marine jet and helicopter units involved in the Iraq war and leads the Miramar-based 3rd Marine Air Wing.

I recently read your article in which you bash Madonna recklessly, yet find it amazing that you do exactly what you claim she is doing. This was the most tacky article that I have seen. My suggestion to you, would be that if you find that you are part of the 99% that do not get it, then find something else to read or pursue. Kabbalah might not be for you! After reading this diatribe that is akin to anything else Judeo Christian, I would suggest possibly taking up crocheting or checkers, yet I think you would probably find something profoundly wrong with that as well. Get a life!

Iraq's Most Feared Prison Open Again
Fri Jul 11, 2:28 PM ET
By JAMIE TARABAY, Associated Press Writer
ABU GHRAIB, Iraq - Khayriyat Taaban squatted to rest in the blistering sun, her head-to-toe black abaya billowing in the furnace-like wind. Every day, she's been making the long walk to look for her son at Abu Ghraib, Saddam Hussein's most notorious prison.
The prison -- which under Saddam was dreaded for its torture chambers and mass executions -- is open again, now run by Iraq's American occupiers. And Iraqis still fear it.
The Americans, who have tried but in many cases failed to convince Iraqis that they are liberators, say they're unhappy about reopening the prison, but had no choice. Apparently recognizing the public relations problem, the Americans replaced a Saddam portrait at the prison with a big sign in English and Arabic: "America is a friend of all Iraqi people."

I am intrigued by your "political" views, and the article about the Baptist Army(?) chaplain who has been bribing soldiers to exchange the removal of some grit and grime from their skins for theis souls. I am not aware of your personal spirituality, because I am bipolar, drinking organic beer, and without attention span enough to comb your site at the moment (although I OF COURSE intend to, I alwals intend to), but my GOD doesn't like a hypocrate, and this dude is in trouble. Anyway, if you ever have a chance, check out this site www.jusbelli.com , I have a friend collecting laws and rules that prove our judicial system is a complete fraud. If you really want to live in a free world, learn how to read the laws and be amazed to find out there is no such thing as freedom, and be willing to fight to bring it back. Ok I am rambling, but please believe me, putting on a dress and being who you truely are( and you TRUELY are!) is not freedom, although it may feel like it is, but that is only because you don't know what true freedom is. Keep on keeping on. I came to your website looking for a friend I have lost, Anne Margaret from Alaska. I found you instead, and it has been a pleasure, I suppose. We literary ones tend to prattle. Write back if ever you get a chance, I am much friendlier that I first appear and I could use a little diversity. Stay safe and sound, don't let the past sneek up on you at night when you are waiting for sleep and kick you around like my past does to me. I am my own worst enemy, so how could I fear others?
Love,
Carrie

Thomas E. White was a high-ranking Enron executive for 11 years, and headed Enron Energy Services-- which investigators believe rigged California's energy market, and cooked the books to inflate profits and cheat investors. http://www.citizen.org/pressroom/release.cfm?ID=1106
Then Bush appointed White to be his Secretary of the Army. After taking office, White violated ethics rules by not immediately divesting from Enron. White only sold his stock after 77 phone calls with Enron insiders (also an ethics violation); at which point he sold millions in Enron stock shortly before the company's collapse vaporized the retirement funds of employees.
Even before Enron was exposed as corrupt, White's ties to the energy-trading corporation made suspect his plan to reduce the Army's self-sufficiency; by closing the Army's power plants & instead buying the juice from Enron & other for-profit corporations. A significant percentage of all the electricity consumed in the United States is used by the govt. This Big Deal was a big deal.
When Enron became front page news, White's official bio on the Army's website suddenly changed. In the old version, White was proud of his key role at Enron, the only civilian employer of his adult life: http://web.archive.org/web/20010624063130/http://www.army.mil/leaders/Secarmy/bio.htm
But after Enron made headlines, all those proud references to Enron & energy trading were deleted, and were replaced with a mere footnote: http://www.army.mil/leaders/Secarmy/bio.htm
Army Secretary White resigned in disgrace today. His ugly ties to some of Enron's biggest crimes had become too obvious for Bush to keep him around.
Especially since other unethical ties between the military, Bush Administration insiders, and private corporations are now being uncovered. If you search-down on this page for the name "Perle", you'll read about how Bush's top advisor Richard Perle had to resign from his post as chair of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board after multiple lucrative dealings were uncovered: including with a company that leaked secret missile technology to the Chinese, and a hundred -million dollar business meeting with a Saudi arms dealer who funneled US weapons to Iranian terrorists during Iran/Contra.
But even that is the small stuff. The big money is in Iraq. The first post-Saddam contract Bush announced went to Halliburton, the company formerly run by Vice President Cheney. Cheney still recieves a million dollars a year (for life) from Halliburton, in addition to undisclosed stock holdings. 95% of the political contributions Halliburton gave between 1999 & 2002 went to Republican candidates. The Iraq contract went straight to Halliburton, with no search for a competing lower-bid.
Congressmen Henry Waxman describes the Halliburton deal this way, in a letter to the US Army Corps of Engineers:
"I am writing to inquire why the administration entered into a contract potentially worth tens of millions of dollars or more with a subsidiary of Halliburton without any competition or even notice to Congress," Waxman wrote.
"The contract . . . has no set time limit and no dollar limit and is apparently structured in such a way as to encourage the contractor to increase its costs and, consequently, the costs to the taxpayer."
The contracts are all about big business, keeping the oil flowing.
Search this Guestbook for the term "Umm", and you'll read about all the problems our troops encountered in distributing water and humanitarian aid at Iraq's port of Umm Qasr. But the contract to "rebuild Iraq" in Umm Qasr, which went to Seattle's Stevedoring Services of America, has nothing to do with assuring the Iraqis get humanitarian aid. It was a deal awarding management of the shipping port to that Corporation, for profit.
Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash, is concerned that the first contracts are directed toward corporate commerce. With Iraq experiencing food shortages and a severe lack of potable water, McDermott and others say the first contracts should be for humanitarian relief.
Meanwhile, back at home, Diabolique is "bored" with Iraq-- which should make Bush very happy. The less you care, the easier it is for Bush's cronies to cash in on Iraq, to the detriment of those we were supposedly 'liberating', and to the detriment of American taxpayers. These corporations should be paying -us- for these sweet deals!
Perhaps that's why Bush is so shamelessly reviving his Tax Cut For The Rich this week, against opposition from his own party in Congress. As long as everybody is focussed on the tax story, the Iraq Pie can be sliced without oversight or scrutiny.
Not that the tax cut is any different than the Iraq scam. 50% of the tax cut $$$ goes to the top 1% richest Americans. And another 25% goes to the next 4% richest. And of course these are the same folks getting contracts in Iraq. They won't even have to pay taxes on their wartime spoils!

I'm not even sure what to say here aside from the fact that because of finding your page today, I have a new understanding of what one of the most important people in my life is going through. He was diagnosed with BL this year and has been admitted today for round 3 of his treatment.
Aside from forcing me to avoid my housework and sit here captivated by your mind and soul, your page pushed me to see things more clearly and not from just what some jackass doctor feels like telling us about the disease, but from the standpoint of someone who truly knows what it's like.
This will be the hardest thing I ever do in MY life and I'm not even the one with cancer. His moods swing, he lashes out at me, he acts like I'm out to get him rather than help him..... and then he looks at me with sweet little boi eyes or speaks to me softly and gently and makes me melt as he apologizes for putting ME through this. He is my heart, my soul, my love. And I just hope that he sees this through with the same determination that you did.
I've now watched a bone marrow aspiration and listened to the tear choked voice of someone coming back from a lumbar puncture and felt what it is to hurt for someone else's pain, so much so, that you want to die. I'm not sure if I believe in God or not but if there is one, he deserves a swift kick in the nuts for putting anyone through this. Sigh.
Ok, so back to your pages. My kids are going to hate you for keeping me so distracted . You are a beautiful person and I wish you all the best. If you're ever in Indiana, I cook a mean lasagna . Dance on.

The reason I express my "diatribes" about the war here, is that Diabolique has been generous-enough to provide this forum to do so.
A big motivation has been that I felt Ms. D did not fairly represent the views of anti-war protesters in her editorials.
And yet I can hardly complain, since D's guestbook is available-- allowing me, as a protester, to speak for myself.
Allowing a response from those who disagree with her-- is one thing that makes Diabolique superior to many of her pro-war colleagues. How much uninterrupted time do you think Limbaugh or O'Reilly would give me on air, if I called in? How many months has it been since Bush had a press conference where the questions weren't pre-screened? Those cowards lack Diabolique's class. I'd be a lot more supportive of the war if D were running it. More trusting that Liberation really-is the agenda. Last week's victory euphoria was nice. But it will be meaningless if corrupt gangsterism replaces Saddam, as happened in Russia after the cheering for the fall of Communism. And it will be meaningless if Fundamentalist Religion replaces Saddam, as happened after the victory party in Afghanistan when the Soviets were expelled (by the returning-champion tag team of Rumsfeld & bin Laden, no less.) Even after the first Gulf War, there was cheering that soon faded into the very atrocities that Diabolique is so rightfully bothered by. The test of the pro-war view is not over. It has just begun.
As for the claim that this is not the "time nor the place" for a rebuttal, maybe you should re-read the guestbook welcome statement. Maybe you should consider that Diabolique would have to be a real ass to only espouse opinions; with no interest in-- or capacity to hear-- the response she provokes. Maybe you need to re-read D's columns, & consider that her complaint is the _lack_ of adequate anti-war argument, not the excess of it.
I've heard Just About Everywhere That A War Dissenter Dared Speak Up described as an inappropriate time or place. From the denial of a permit to march in NYC on Martin Luther King's birthday; to the guy arrested in a shopping mall for wearing a Give Peace A Chance t-shirt; to the Montana history professor whose students reported him to the FBI when he gave a lecture on the importance of protest in America's history; to the Republican Bush Crony who runs the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame-- who cancelled a scheduled 15th Anniversary showing of 'Bull Durham' for the express reason that stars Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins might say something against the war at the event.
It's not supposed to be like that in America. But until the rest of you pro-war dorks reach Diabolique's maturity-level; the very idea of America remains endangered.

GUESTBOOK BOY
Looking for a sane explanation for the Iraq War? One could do worse than
to rally around Nat Hentoff's column in the April 2 Village Voice, entitled
"Why I Didn't March This Time".
Hentoff's pro-war piece is a lot less goofy than the links Diabolique has
offered in support of her position. Less flawed than Diabolique's own words
on the subject. Less dubious than the official positions of the Bush administration.
But even Hentoff's reasoning falls short of convincing.
Hentoff makes the usual case: claiming Saddam was sufficiently nasty that
removing him via war was justified. OK. That's why Hentoff didn't march
"this time".
But Hentoff makes zero attempt to explain why Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Cong
weren't equally deserving of regime change, for similar abuses. Why did Hentoff
'march last time', during Vietnam? Why doesn't Hentoff now regard his opposition
to that war as a mistake?
The reason is that hindsight has justified his previous position. Hentoff
doesn't have to retract his Vietnam-era antiwar stance; because history proved
that war was a big mistake. (If you don't understand that, then you truly
are a lost cause. Even Robert McNamara acknowledged, decades later, that
Vietnam was a colossal fxckup.)
And, by that standard, the preponderance of evidence suggests that Iraq
War is likewise folly. For instance, consider the most widely-held opinion
which could be said to be oppose the war: Every poll in the US showed a
majority of Americans agreed with the statements "No war without UN backing"
and "The inspectors should be given more time to do their job." And yet
the war was conducted in violation of these conditions.
Was the threat posed by Saddam to the US, the region, or Iraq-- was it so
immediate as to justify skipping over those key conditions? Absolutely not.
Even Harlan Ullman, the inventor of "Shock & Awe" says the threat wasn't
immediate, and it was a mistake to interrupt the inspections & defy the
UN at this stage.
Thus the war is already shown to be a mistake in that regard. The protesters
are already justified, that much. Other anti-war concerns-- expressed before
the war-- have also unfolded for the worse. For example: the war has not
been the "Cakewalk" many war supporters said it would be. Not in terms of
Iraqi loss of life. Nor in terms of US casualties. Also, the Iraqis have
not welcomed us as the war supporters said they would. Instead there was
much opposition. Whether protesters' other dire concerns will also come to
pass remains to be seen. But protesters' concerns were were far from outlandish.
And given the insular & dismissive behavior of the Bush administration,
protest was a completely valid way to make those concerns be heard.
Also pertinent to Diabolique's stated views-- are the Letters to the Editor
published in the April 9 Village Voice, in response to Hentoff.
Those letters could very-easily double as responses to Diabolique. Which
exposes the fib that anti-war folks are unable to rebut prowar arguments.
Many of the letters are standard anti-war fare. One doesn't have to be a
stellar thinker to see the obvious defects of the war. One letter might
have particular resonance in regard to Diabolique. Allow me to substitute
'Diabolique' for 'Hentoff' in this sentence: "Sometimes I suspect Diabolique
contrives political opinions to distinguish himself from the left herd."
Since the entire personae of Diabolique is a contrivance, doesn't that necessitate
questioning whether Diabolique's views are untainted? Is Diabolique saying
this pro-war stuff because it's very True, or because it's very diabolique
to say it? This accusation is no different than Diabolique's own claims that
the protesters are protesting for the wrong reasons. Reasons of identity
& ego & fashion.
It is probably a mistake to focus on the ad hominem motives for why people
express what they do. Instead, just look at the merits of what is said.
It's a lot harder to dismiss the protesters' ideas, than to dismiss their
corny, sincere good-liberal eating habits or their Birkenstocks.
Choosing to focus on the latter, Diabolique displayed bad judgement, bad
priorities. The serious subject of whether to kill thousands in the name
of one's country-- deserves better treatment.

US ARMY: BECOME A CHRISTIAN OR SUFFER THE DESERT!
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/special_packages/iraq/5554317.htm
CAMP BUSHMASTER, Iraq - In this dry desert world near Najaf, where the Army
V Corps combat support system sprawls across miles of scabrous dust, there's
an oasis of sorts: a 500-gallon pool of pristine, cool water.
It belongs to Army chaplain Josh Llano of Houston, who sees the water shortage,
which has kept thousands of filthy soldiers from bathing for weeks, as an
opportunity.
''It's simple. They want water. I have it, as long as they agree to get
baptized,'' he said.
And agree they do. Every day, soldiers take the plunge for the Lord and
come up clean for the first time in weeks.
''They do appear physically and spiritually cleansed,'' Llano said.
First, though, the soldiers have to go to one of Llano's hour-and-a-half
sermons in his dirt-floor tent. Then the baptism takes an hour of quoting
from the Bible.
''Regardless of their motives,'' Llano said, ``I get the chance to take
them closer to the Lord.''
A blue-eyed 32-year-old with an abundance of energy, Llano goes out every
day to drum up grimy soldiers for his pool.
He talks to truck drivers, tank drivers, computer specialists -- anyone
and everyone. He goes out to the combat zone to the fighting soldiers and
the combat support soldiers who keep them in supplies.
''You have to be aggressive to help people find themselves in God,'' he
said.
He calls himself a ''Southern Baptist evangelist,'' and justifies the war
and killing with a verse from the Gospel of Matthew, which he often recites:
``Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that
are God's.
''This means we are called upon by our government to fight and that is giving
unto Caesar, as the Bible tells us,'' he said.
Earlier this week, word went out that portable showers might be installed
here soon, but Llano was undaunted.
''There is no fruit out here, and I have a stash of raisins, juice boxes
and fruit rolls to pull out,'' the chaplain said optimistically.

"Most people live their lives constantly trying to be liked... I, on the
hand, don’t care if I’m liked...In the past few weeks, I have managed to
alienate thousands with my view on Iraq. Excellent."
--Diabolique
NO WONDER YOU ENDORSE BUSH'S WAR: The Bush Gang likes to lose friends, too.
Both within the Pentagon & overseas:
/Sy Hersh, the New Yorker/
"As the ground campaign against Saddam Hussein faltered last week...there
was anger in the Pentagon. Several senior war planners complained to me in
interviews that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and his inner circle
of civilian advisers, who had been chiefly responsible for persuading President
Bush to lead the country into war, had insisted on micromanaging the war’s
operational details.
....
"According to a dozen or so military men I spoke to, Rumsfeld simply failed
to anticipate the consequences of protracted warfare. He put Army and Marine
units in the field with few reserves and an insufficient number of tanks
and other armored vehicles... Supply lines...have become overextended and
vulnerable to attack, creating shortages of fuel, water, and ammunition.
Pentagon officers spoke contemptuously of the Administration’s optimistic
press briefings.
....
Rumsfeld’s personal contempt for many of the senior generals and admirals
who were promoted to top jobs during the Clinton Administration is widely
known.
....
Scott Ritter, the former marine and United Nations weapons inspector, who
has warned for months that the American “shock and awe” strategy would not
work, noted that much of the bombing has had little effect or has been counterproductive.
For example, the bombing of Saddam’s palaces has freed up a brigade of special
guards who had been assigned to protect them, and who have now been sent
home to await further deployment.
....
Last Thursday, the Army’s senior ground commander, Lieutenant General William
S. Wallace, said to reporters, “The enemy we’re fighting is different from
the one we war-gamed against. (One senior Administration official commented
to me, speaking of the Iraqis, “They’re not scared. Ain’t it something? They’re
not scared.”)
....
Perhaps the biggest disappointment of last week was the failure of the Shiite
factions in southern Iraq to support the American and British invasion...“Dawa
is one group that could kill Saddam,” a former American intelligence official
told me. “They hate Saddam because he suppressed the Shiites. They exist
to kill Saddam.” He said that their apparent decision to stand with the Iraqi
regime now was a “disaster” for us. “They’re like hard-core Vietcong.”
["Charley didn't get much USO. He was dug in too deep or moving too fast.
His idea of great R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat. He had only
two ways home: death, or victory." "No wonder Kurtz put a weed up command's
ass. The war was being run by a bunch of four-star clowns who were going
to end up giving the whole circus away." --Captain Willard, former US intelligence
offical, Apocalypse Now]
"There were reports last week that Iraqi exiles, including fervent Shiites,
were crossing into Iraq by car and bus from Jordan and Syria to get into
the fight on the side of the Iraqi government. Robert Baer, a former C.I.A.
Middle East operative, told me in a telephone call from Jordan, “Everybody
wants to fight. The whole nation of Iraq is fighting to defend Iraq. Not
Saddam. They’ve been given the high sign, and we are courting disaster. If
we take fifty or sixty casualties a day and they die by the thousands, they’re
still winning....There were press reports of mujahideen arriving from Pakistan,
Afghanistan, and Algeria for “martyrdom operations.” "
....
There had been an expectation before the war that Iran, Iraq’s old enemy,
would side with the United States in this fight. One Iraqi opposition group,
the Iraqi National Congress, led by Ahmed Chalabi, has been in regular contact
with the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, or sciri, an
umbrella organization for Shiite groups who oppose Saddam. The organization
is based in Iran and has close ties to Iranian intelligence. The Chalabi
group set up an office last year in Tehran, with the approval of Chalabi’s
supporters in the Pentagon, who include Rumsfeld, his deputies Wolfowitz
and Feith, and Richard Perle, the former chairman of the Defense Policy Board.
Chalabi has repeatedly predicted that the Tehran government would provide
support, including men and arms, if an American invasion of Iraq took place.
Last week, however, this seemed unlikely. In a press conference on Friday,
Rumsfeld warned Iranian militants against interfering with American forces
and accused Syria of sending military equipment to the Iraqis. A Middle East
businessman who has long-standing ties in Jordan and Syria—and whose information
I have always found reliable—told me that the religious government in Tehran
“is now backing Iraq in the war. There isn’t any Arab fighting group on the
ground in Iraq who is with the United States,” he said.
There is also evidence that Turkey has been playing both sides. Turkey and
Syria, who traditionally have not had close relations, recently agreed to
strengthen their ties, the businessman told me, and early this year Syria
sent Major General Ghazi Kanaan, its longtime strongman and power broker
in Lebanon, to Turkey. The two nations have begun to share intelligence and
to meet, along with Iranian officials, to discuss border issues, in case
an independent Kurdistan emerges from the Iraq war. A former U.S. intelligence
officer put it this way: “The Syrians are coördinating with the Turks
to screw us in the north—to cause us problems.” He added, “Syria and the
Iranians agreed that they could not let an American occupation of Iraq stand.”

Stop Worrying And Love The MOAB Bomb
[...Fresh water also started to flow from Kuwait into Iraq at a rate of
almost 400,000 gallons a day for people who had been without drinkable water
for 11 days.
But the first breath of coalition humanitarian aid to reach Umm Qasr was
also marred by a dash of violence and chaos, as well as a more significant
dispute between American and British military officials over whether to charge
Iraqis for the water they drink.
Sunday, the first water trucks made their rounds in Umm Qasr. So did a message
from the coalition, broadcast over bullhorns: Henceforth, water would be
free. Iraqis would no longer have to pay the delivery driver a fee.
US military officials had a different message yesterday, saying that water-delivery
truck drivers would be allowed to charge civilians -- but not schools and
hospitals -- a small fee for the water they had received free of charge from
the Kuwaiti government. ''What kind of aid would that be?'' said Major Tom
Ellis, a spokesman for the British Army. ''How are they going to pay for
this? These people don't even have shoes. The water will be free so that
it can go to women and children.''
According to military personnel, the first distribution -- which included
some bottled water -- turned hectic, as one man stabbed another in downtown
Umm Qasr while scrambling for water. ''Water was flying off the trucks like
confetti,'' said Colonel David Bassert, a US civil affairs officer based
in Umm Qasr.
British and American military officials running the first phase of the civilian
reconstruction of Iraq have clearly disagreed over whether delivery drivers
would be allowed to charge customers for water, as they did under the Ba'ath
Party regime.
''We will do it the way it has been done,'' Bassert said yesterday afternoon.
Military officials say they don't want to derail the local economy and substitute
what amounts to a welfare system.
The decision to levy a fee of 250 Iraqi dinar for 5.3 gallons of water disturbed
many people, including several military personnel and town residents.
''Is this any way to help people? This is not the way,'' said one Iraqi,
who did not want to give his name. ''Before we had jobs, so we could afford
to pay for water. We have no money here now.''
Umm Qasr's water main has been shut off in Basra, so there is no way to
pipe water to people's houses. Children and young men line the streets, begging
passing military convoys for water.
Because British officials are overseeing Umm Qasr, it appeared yesterday
that their preference for a free-water policy would prevail.
The security situation here remains precarious. Every night, British commandos
have sprayed the sky with flares while they raid the homes of suspected Ba'athists.
Yesterday afternoon, an explosion of undetermined origin shattered the calm
at the coalition military headquarters in the port.
Yesterday, a 45-year-old man named Sabah came with his 12-year-old son,
Ali, to an abandoned Iraqi Marine camp on the edge of the American and British
headquarters in Umm Qasr to raid a rusty, abandoned water tank. ''There is
no water to drink or to wash with,'' he said, while his son played with gas
masks abandoned by the Iraqi military. As an engineer at Umm Qasr's port,
Sabah claims to have earned 150,000 dinars a month, which he said just enabled
him to support his six children.]

50% of the population of Bagdhad is under 15 years of age. And those little
fxcks should stop begging for a Welfare hand-out, and go get jobs to pay
for the water they drink! If we give out free water to replace the plumbing
systems we've bombed; that's like Socialism! (No wonder the British approve
of it!) Bah! Socialists...nay!...Communists! CUT TO:
INT. - RIPPER'S OFFICE - DAY
With gunfire sounding in the background, US General Jack D. Ripper puts
a comforting arm around a worried British Group Captain Lionel Mandrake's
shoulder, revealing his completely paranoidal, psycho-sexual, psychotic lunacy.
RIPPER
"I can longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination,
communist perversion and the international communist conspiracy to sap and
impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. On no account will a Commie ever
drink water, and not without good reason...Water is the source of all life.
Seven tenths of this earth's surface is water. Why, you realize that seventy
percent of you is water...And as human beings, you and I need fresh, pure
water to replenish our precious bodily fluids... (Mandrake chuckles nervously)
Mandrake, have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rain
water, and only pure grain alcohol?...Have you ever heard of a thing called
fluoridation? Fluoridation of water?... fluoridation is the most monstrously
conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face. Mandrake,
do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why there are studies
underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice
cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.
MANDRAKE
Lord, Jack.
RIPPER
You know when fluoridation first began?
MANDRAKE
Aye, no, no. I don't Jack.
RIPPER
Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six Mandrake. How does that
coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? Its incredibly obvious
isn't it. A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids
without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's
the way your hard-core Commie works.
MANDRAKE
Uh, Jack, Jack, listen, tell me, tell me, Jack. When did you first...become...well,
develop this theory?
RIPPER: Well, I, uh...I...I...first became aware of it, Mandrake, during
the physical act of love.
MANDRAKE
Hmm.
RIPPER
Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue...a feeling of emptiness followed.
Luckily I...I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence.
I can assure you that it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh...women sense
my power and they seek the life essence. I do not avoid women, Mandrake.
MANDRAKE
No?
RIPPER
But I...I do deny them my essence.
-*-
There'll be times
When my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life livable
But when you think I've had enough
From your sea of love
I´ll take more than another river-full
And I´ll make it all worthwhile
I´ll make your heart smile
Strange love
Strange highs and strange lows
Strange love
That´s how my love goes
Strange love
Will you give it to me
Will you take the pain
I will give it to you
Again and again
And will you return it
There´ll be days
When I´ll stray
I may appear to be
Constantly out of reach
I give in to sin
Because I like to practice what I preach
I´m not trying to say
I´ll have it all my way
I´m always willing to learn
When you´ve got something to teach
And I´ll make it all worthwhile
I´ll make your heart smile
Pain will you return it
I´ll say it again -- pain
Pain will you return it
I won´t say it again
Strange love
Strange highs and strange lows
Strange love
That´s how my love goes...

US soldiers in Iraq asked to pray for Bush
They may be the ones facing danger on the battlefield, but US soldiers in
Iraq are being asked to pray for President George W Bush.
Thousands of marines have been given a pamphlet called "A Christian's Duty,"
a mini prayer book which includes a tear-out section to be mailed to the
White House pledging the soldier who sends it in has been praying for Bush.
"I have committed to pray for you, your family, your staff and our troops
during this time of uncertainty and tumult. May God's peace be your guide,"
says the pledge, according to a journalist embedded with coalition forces.
The pamphlet, produced by a group called In Touch Ministries, offers a daily
prayer to be made for the US president, a born-again Christian who likes
to invoke his God in speeches.
Sunday's is "Pray that the President and his advisers will seek God and
his wisdom daily and not rely on their own understanding".
Monday's reads "Pray that the President and his advisers will be strong
and courageous to do what is right regardless of critics".

Bush's Crusade, Phase II:
"Two leading evangelical Christian missionary organizations said Tuesday
that they have teams of workers poised to enter Iraq to address the physical
and spiritual needs of a large Muslim population... The hope is that as the
war front moves and the situation in the outlying areas improves, we'll be
able to send mobile teams in. 'Our understanding of relief ministries
is that anytime you give a cup of cold water in the name of Jesus you've
shared God's love in a real physical way. That also raises the question as
to why you did that. When people ask you, you explain that it's because of
the love of God that has been poured out into my life and I have a deep desire
that you know that same love as well.'":

Trying to relive the excess of my youth I have been trawling the net in recent
weeks looking for dance music from "my era". Finally I stumble on this site.
What can I say?
Fantastic is an understatement. Tunes from 1990 to 94 are of particular
interest to me (though the rest are still excellent).
Just stick on the music, turn the volume up and return to those halcyon
long weekends that all blended into one long day. Try to get close once more
to the ups (and the downs!!) that made living so essential back then.
Shudder as the hairs on the back of your neck stand up after hearing the
awsome "Stella" once more or lose yourself in the rising beat that is "Quench".
If only the music was in the form of a full set!! I'd start the night off
about 7pm with some uplifting beats and end about 2 or 3 after sending my
spirit into orbit and finally listen to Bille Ray with her "lovin arm's".
Would love to meet people with similar taste in music, maybe someone can
tell me where in the UK I could go for one last great weekend before I settle
down (awww)
Keep up the cool work, I shall be here often
Love to you all

Thou Shall Not Bear False Witness
Remember those forged documents which supposedly showed Iraq sought weapons-uranium
from Niger? --the documents that Bush used in his state of the union address
as evidence that we should go to war.
In the March 31, 2003 issue of the New Yorker, Rabbi Sy Hersh examines who
was behind the forgery, and how it came to be broadcast out of Bush's mouth
& around the world's airwaves, unopposed.
The answers are scary.
[The Bush Administration's reliance on the Niger documents may, however,
have stemmed from more than bureacratic carelessness or political over-reaching.
Forged documents and false accusations have been an element in U.S. and British
policy toward Iraq at least since the fall of 1997, after an impasse over
U.N. inspections.]
[A former Clinton Administration official told me that London had resorted
to, among other things, spreading false information about Iraq. The British
propaganda program-- part of it's Information Operations, or I/Ops-- was
known to a few senior officials in Washington. "I knew that was going on,"
the former Clinton Administration official said of the British efforts. ]
[...a former American intelligence official told me, at least one member
of the U.N. inspection team who supported the American and British position
arranged for dozens of unverified and unverifiable intelligence reports and
tips-- data known as inactionable intelligence-- to be funnelled to MI6 operatives
and quietly passed along to newspapers in London and elsewhere. "It was intelligence
that was crap, and that we couldn't move on, but the Brits wanted to plant
stories in England and around the world," the former officer said. There
was a series of meetings with MI6, at which documents were provided, as well
as quiet meetings, usually at safe houses in the Washington area. The British
propaganda scheme eventually became known to members of the U.N. inspection
team.]
CIA spokesman William Harlow claims that the agency had not obtained the
actual documents until AFTER Bush used them as evidence in his state of
the union address.
[The former high-level intelligence official told me that some senior CIA
officials were aware that the documents weren't trustworthy. "It's not a
question of whether they were marginal. They can't be 'sort of' bad, or 'sort
of' ambigous. They were it was a fraud--it was useless. Everybody bit their
tongue and said, "Wouldn't it be great if the Secretary of State said this?"]
[A former intelligence officer told me that some questions about the authenicity
of the Niger documents were raised inside the governement by analysts at
the Department of Energy and State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and
Research. However, these warnings were not heeded. "Somebody deliberately
let something false get in there, " the former high-level intelligence official
added. "It could not have gotten into the system without the agency being
involved. Therefore it was an internal intention. Someone set someone up."]
Given Bush's little problem with the truth, from his own Global Warming
report to Saddam's supposed ties to al Qaeda; how are we supposed to EVER
trust him?
It's clear that once Bush decides for himself that a course is correct,
he's comfortable lying or cheating to get his way. He doesn't feel he owes
us integrity. Even when caught in this Niger nuke lie... [The White House
declined to comment.]
The falsehoods that led us into this war don't end there. How many times
has Bush declared "Saddam gassed his own people." ? Well someone says the
incident never happened. That someone is Stephen C. Pelletiere, the Central
Intelligence Agency's senior political analyst on Iraq during the Iran-Iraq
war, professor at the Army War College from 1988 to 2000, head of a 1991
US Army investigation into how the Iraqis would fight a war against the United
States, and author of Iraq and the International Oil System: Why America
Went to War in the Persian Gulf. Pelletiere cites a Pentagon report which
concluded that the victims were in fact gassed by the Iranians. http://www.sovereignty.org.uk/siteinfo/newsround/iraq2.html
Nothing has changed since the first Gulf War, when the US government contracted
PR firm Hill & Knowlton to drum up support for US military action. From
this came the great Incubator Lie, which said Iraqi soldiers took Kuwaiti
babies from incubators and "left the babies on the cold floor to die." The
lie was even repeated in testimony before Congress, as whether to go to war
was debated. http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/0906/p25s02-cogn.html
Antiwar protesters worldwide agree-- it is impossible to even begin to justify
this war; until justifications given are not lies.

So you deride Michael Moore for making taking cheap shots, instead of sticking
to compelling arguments. Then you proceed to take cheap shots of your own.
The only one that stings is "plagarist", because I did dutifully cut &
paste the Nation article URL as my 'Home Page URL' in your guestbook form--
but your guestbook didn't print it, for whatever reason. If I'd have known,
I would have put it in the body of my comments. Alas.
Good work identifying my Oceans Eleven tie-in as irrelevant-- Nothing gets
past you! Thank god we have you to point-out & dispute all the least-important
antiwar utterances. All the other commentators are overlooking irrelevancies
in favor relevant stuff.
Indulge me one more comment on the Oceans Eleven premiere: reports state
that the event wasn't just for US Troops, but for Coalition forces. Hope
those murdering Turkish generals enjoyed their Hollywood reward, courtesy
Bush family friend Jerry Weintraub.
But back to the subject of protests. Didja see Paul Krugman's New York
Times piece this week, suggesting the pro-war protests were organized by
Bush's Texas Rangers baseball crony/ Clear Channel vice-prez Tom Hicks? http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/25/opinion/25KRUG.html

protesters? Here's another hint: guess which side the anti-Matthew Shepard
protesters are on?

Jaye Davidson for Best Actress
HOLLYWOOD, CA USA
Planning to watch the Oscars, Ms. Diabolique? To sneer at the antiwar sentiments
of vapid celebs? Hope I'm not spoiling the suspense, but the Academy Award
for "Dirtiest Face Behind The Make-Up" goes to the Ocean's Eleven gang: George
Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle,
Steven Soderbergh, and (long-time friend of Bush I & Bush II) Jerry Weintraub--
who all flew to the Incirlik US Airbase in Turkey, to premiere their film
in December 2001.
The recent history of Incirlik Airbase offers a small window on the moral
incoherence and dubious alliances that characterize US foreign policy in
the region.
The most scandalous of these compromises involves the US role in northern
Iraq. The ostensible humanitarian purpose of the northern no-fly zone is
to safeguard 3.3 million Iraqi Kurds. Unfortunately, US concern for the Kurds
extends only to those being attacked by our enemy Saddam, not to those being
attacked by our ally Turkey. Over the past fourteen years more than 23,000
Kurds fighting for greater autonomy and self-determination in southern Turkey
and northern Iraq have died at Turkish hands. When Turkey sends US-made F-16s
or thousands of troops to attack the Kurds across the border, Washington
looks the other way. It's an "obscene piece of hypocrisy," writes John Nichol,
the British pilot who was shot down in 1991 and tortured by Iraqi forces.
"Turkish authorities ground our aircraft so that their own can attack the
very Kurds that [we were] protecting just a few hours before." One investigation
by Air Force Times revealed that the Turks were grounding more than 50 percent
of US missions.
How much does the US care about peace, freedom, and fighting oppression?...
"If a Turkish Ayatollah Khomeini came to power tomorrow," a high-level military
official told The Nation, "the US would still stay on bended knee to avoid
losing that base." In 2000, the US House of Representatives was poised to
vote on a resolution to recognize the 1915 Turkish massacre of an estimated
1.5 million Armenians. As the bill gathered support, Turkish officials threatened
to end US access to Incirlik. President Clinton quickly persuaded the bill's
sponsor to drop it. To ingratiate ourselves with our Turkish hosts, the
US Govt has not protested oppressive provisions in the Turkish Constitution
that allow widespread torture, imprisonment, and the death penalty for ethnic
minorities that commit such crimes of free-expression as naming a baby a
traditional ethnic name, rather than a name from the approved listed of 'Turkish'
names.
In addition to the $800 Million Dollars in US Arms Turkey receives annually,
the Bush Administration tried to has sweeten the pot by offering a multibillion
dollar aid package, contingent on "total cooperation" in the Iraq War. No
contingency on Turkey's oppressive behavior was demanded.
But Turkey balked at the deal. Bush's war is unpopular with the vast majority
of Turkish citizens, and it was the stationing of US troops in Saudia Arabia
during the Gulf War that was Osama bin Laden's primary propaganda complaint
in forming al Qaeda. Since the Incirlik base is on a lease that must be re-approved
by the Turks every six months, Turkey knows Bush will play ball when eviction-day
looms. Even in forbidding ground troops, the Turks were careful not to kill
their hostage, by forbidding air war operations from Incirlik.
Alas, Turkey may have guessed wrong. It is reported today that a Northern
Front in the Iraq war is to be opened, with the US having cut a deal with
Kurdish KDP guerillas who have controlled Northern Iraq for the last 12 years.
The question that arises is whether this staging-point will be a permanent
replacement to Incirlik. The massive blind-eye that the US has turned to
Turkish misbehavior, has emboldened Turkey's generals to drive hard bargains
when negotiating with us. Surely the Pentagon is looking at the KDP territory
as new foothold with lower 'rent'. The problem is that, although the oppression
of Kurds is well-established, that doesn't mean that the peshmerga guerillas
are great defenders of The American Way. Much like the oppressive warlords
in Afghanistan, who we chose as allies in a 'lesser of two evils' decision;
the Kurdish leaders are prone to autocratic behavior themselves. Thus we
risk a rerun of American foreign policy as seen so many times before: where
we again condone oppressive dictators so long as they keep their violence
'domestic', and give the US unlimited military access. In fact, that's how
we got in bed with Saddam in the first place, by choosing him over Iran.
Given this history, how can you dismiss as mere "American liberal self-hatred"
the concerns of antiwar protesters that this is a war of power-expansion,
not liberation? You ask "Where were these 'peace' protesters then? [When
previous oppression was carried out.]" The answer: actively working to fight
the oppression. The vegan/Nader contingent that you mock is not a mere fashion
movement. Your superficial dismissals omit these peoples' vigilant role
in documenting and fighting such abuses. But you don't care. As you phrased
it yourself:
"It is of course impossible to argue logically with a person who is unable
to...accept facts when they don't fit into a pre-supposed worldview."
You're standing in your own shade, bitch.

In February of 1982, Reagan removed Iraq from the official State Department
list of Nations that support Terrorism.
This was done so Saddam Hussein could qualify for $500 Million Dollars in
loan guarantees from the Import-Export Bank. Bush Sr. personally oversaw
the transaction to assure it was approved.
Liberals complained that the money would be used for chem/bio weapons &
terror. And that's what happened. But Reagan & Bush & the GOP didn't
care; because they planned to use Saddam as a pawn. $200 Million more was
authorized. Then a Billion Dollar aid package.
So Saddam had a License To Kill, to terrorize. He was Above The Law. Republicans
refused to deem Saddam a terrorist, even when he sheltered the terror-architect
of the Achille Lauro hostage-taking; where Leon Klinghoffer was dumped from
the ship's deck; out of his wheelchair to die in the sea.
When Terrorists with suitcase bombs left Bagdhad to blow-up the Rome airport;
the GOP still refused to list Saddam as a terrorist, instead offering full,
normalized diplomatic relations. When it was learned Saddam was procuring
a nuke program, he was not condemned. Rather, we aided him.
Eight days before his invasion of Kuwait, Saddam Hussein met with April
Glaspie, then America's ambassador to Iraq. It was the last high-level contact
between the two countries before Iraq invaded. "We have no opinion on your
Arab-Arab conflicts," the transcript reports Glaspie saying, "such as your
dispute with Kuwait. Secretary [of State James] Baker has directed me to
emphasize the instruction ... that Kuwait is not associated with America."
So our lapdog Saddam was in for a surprise-- when, after the invasion, we
suddenly revoked his License to Kill, and suddenly were shocked (shocked!)
to discover he was a madman terrorist evildoer.
As the Gulf War 'ended' Bush Sr. implored dissidents to rise-up against
Saddam. But then Bush did nothing to back the rebels, and Bush even defended
Saddam's right to enforce internal matters in Iraq as he saw-fit. So the
dissidents met gory fates. It was just like old times, Bush giving Saddam
a free ride again.
Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf drafted the terms of Iraq's surrender, grounding
all Iraq airplanes. But a loophole was left in the terms, allowing helicopters.
The Kurds you care so much about were gunned-down from the air.
Given this history, it is supremely sickening to hear George W Bush now
speak disapprovingly of Saddam's crimes; as if they are not our own crimes.
Yes Saddam is an inhumane scoundrel. But he should not be a Scapegoat, while
his former handlers go free, and indeed currently run the US Govt.
Particularly disgusting is George W Bush's Executive Order #13233, which
buries forever the presidential records of his father's administration from
public view, insuring the American people will never have access to records
which show the cynical discussions behind the decision to place Saddam Hussein
Above The Law, to give him a License To Terrorize, and to fund and arm these
crimes.
Good riddance to Saddam, but not if his Elite REPUBLICAN Guardians get off
scot-free. To fault antiwar protesters for including vague pro-peace slogans
in with their analysis, is like hating a new white label because you don't
like the DJ's shirt. Not a breath should be expended thusly. Focus your attention
on steering Rumsfeld, Bush, et al. -- away from their 20 year record of buttressing
OPPRESSION in Iraq. Otherwise, your support for an imaginary, idealized
Iraq War is airy-fairy dreaming of a sort you claim to despise.
Demand a deadline for Bush to step-down too!
Evidence to support my claims:

going to post new songs, etc. It appears that your music stops at 2000.
Love ya,
