Join us as we thrust into house music... Week of 10 05 04 Finally, here it is. An interview that the entire world (minus 6 or so billion) has been waiting for: The House of Diabolique vs. RuPaul: an email interview. Ru, My whole existence is inspired by you. To me you are the alpha and the omega. ?? There's an old Nelson Sullivan video of you and a bunch of friends cavorting on a slummy roof on the West Side, and even though you're surrounded by squalor, there's an undeniable optimism in all of you. It's incredibly sweet. Are you still an optimistic person? Absolutely, I have to be. The glass it either half empty or half full, both choices are correct but one choice will bring you joy and the other choice will bring you pain; you decide. Any thoughts on Nelson Sullivan and his video legacy? Nelson Sullivan was one of my greatest teachers. I think of him every single day and he will live forever in my heart and through his video legacy. I don't know if you followed the now-dead electroclash trend at all, but I hated it because of it's cynicism. What I love about you is your lack of cynicism. I hated how in interviews electroclash's "founder" Larry Tee would sometimes seem to take full credit for getting you on the pop charts with "Supermodel". Did that annoy you too? [No answer.] Does it bother you that the word "Bush" no longer brings pussy to mind? Yes, absolutely! You sound more sexual on this album than usual, especially on "Kinky/Freaky". I like it. Was this intentional? Most definitely. I would have never put this on my earlier records because I didn’t want to make people feel uncomfortable about mixing sex with a beloved Disney character. Back then, my plan was to infiltrate every home in America and I knew that if I added sex into the mix, my campaign would be harder sell. I feel differently today because my name is a household word and I feel confident enough to push the envelope more. You've worked in so many different industries. Which is worse? The fashion industry or the music industry? They’re both neck-and-neck but for different reasons; both industries are cruel, insensitive and inhumane but at least with music, the product is everlasting. I know you're all about love, but I've always had an inkling that deep within you existed one specific, evil thought. What is it? Love is a choice I make. But I also have fear (which is what hate is). [Editor's note: see Yoda.] Thank you, Ru, and good luck with the new album. For more of my thoughts on Ru, check out this update. As for myself, I am feeling better and better each day. To answer a common question, no I did not have cancer again. The doctors thought I did, but the surgery proved that I didn't. Thanks to all of you for your well wishes as I return, inevitably, to full power. 'Dance (Theme for the House of Diabolique)' by Diabolique vs. the Egyptian Lover until next week, remember.. --- |
