Join us as we thrust into house music.. Week of 7/21/03.. A few weeks ago I was in the presence of a friend who relayed a story about a friend of theirs who had made fun of someone for liking "tribal house" because as this person stated "Tribal house is for old people! Only old people like tribal house! Tribal house is stupid!" After hearing this I thought, "Am I supposed to agree with this? What a stupid thing to say." For one thing, tribal house is great, as evidenced by the above song which I hope you're listening to. For two, I like old people. Anyone who makes fun of old people is self-defeating anyway. We all should be so lucky as to get old. Old people have a lot going for them. They are smarter and wiser than young people. They have learned the lessons that young people must stumble through like retards. It is for this reason that old people should be sought out and not scorned. I felt a physical taste of being very old when I had cancer. Not only was I surrounded by old people in the hospital, but I also hobbled when I walked. I was unsteady. I needed support. I was prone to passing out. And so when I see an old person hobbling down the street or onto a bus, I think to myself: I know how that feels. I wonder about their life, and my heart inflates with respect. I am glad I didn't die from cancer because anyone who dies young, dies foolish, and I need to know more before I kick. I have no patience for anyone who lies about their age or regrets their birthdays. Brag about your age. Regret nothing but your own lack of pride if you don't. Age-based shame reveals a humiliating lack of prowess and self-control. Are you a slave to culture? Some are leaves blown helplessly to the ground; others fly to the stars like rockets. I am 31 and this is what 31 is supposed to look like. This is what 31 is supposed to be. I make every age I turn a better one and so should you. Advertising culture places a huge emphasis on youth; but I subscribe not to advertisers. I am not so easily manipulated. As I grow older, indeed, as anyone does, we march farther and farther towards greatness. This week I am thrilled to reveal the internet's only music collection dedicated to the greatest runway & ballroom classics. Many of these thrilling songs are tribal house. Those who would deny their glory are fools. until next week,
